Ideation: We will watch this video to learn about owls. Students will practice writing facts about owls. After their ceramic owls come out of the kiln, they will learn about Oaxacan Animals and the use of bright bold colors. This will help inspire them to come up with a design to color their owl with. Through a short demonstration, we discuss how to make symmetry and add layers of details to make it more interesting.
Materials: Students will learn how to manipulate and decorate clay through a directed demonstration. They will follow along with folding, rolling, and carving the clay. Once the ceramic owls come out of the kiln, they will use tempera paint to paint their owls.
